ACRA Annual Dinner 2003 invited Dr. Sarah Liao, Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works as our Guest of Honor Date: 24th November 2003 (Monday) Time: 6:30 pm (reception) 7:30 pm (Dinner) Venue: Island Shangri-La Hotel, Pacific Place, Supreme Court Road, Central, Hong Kong The Federation of Electrical and Mechanical Contractor Ltd. And the Federation of Hong Kong Electrical & Mechanical Industries Trade Unions jointly organized Safety Walk and Carnival Fair on 30 November 2003. There will have a walk from Braemar Hill Playground via the Sir Cecil’s Ride (Quarry Bay Country Park) to the Mount Parker Morning Walker Garden and will have some playing counters at the Finish.

The "Occupational Safety and Health (Display Screen Equipment) Regulation" comes into operation on 4 July 2003. It requires that the person responsible for a workplace to perform a risk assessment of a workstation and to take steps to reduce risks to the lowest extent as is reasonably practicable. An employer shall also ensure that the employees are provided with necessary safety and health training. The employee on the other hand shall conform to the system of work and work practice; and comply with the risk reduction measures.

Final draft report for Review of Fire Services Installation Contractors Registration Scheme had been issued and passed. It will proceed to legislation. The new Class 4 FSI Contractors will be allowed to handle VAC shutdown, smoke extraction system and staircase pressurization, whereas the new Class 4S FSI Contractors will be allowed to handle VAC shutdown.

 

June 2003

2nd Round of the ACRA Bowling Competition was postponed due to SARS. It is rescheduled to July 24, 2003 at 6:00pm. The venue is remained unchanged, in AMF Amoy Super Bowl ( 淘 大 AMF 保 齡 球 場 ).

Seminar on " Introduction on Self-employed Person's Clarification and Insurance", organized by FEMC, is confirmed to be held on 27th June 2003 (Friday) without further delay. For those members who have registered to this seminar, the admission ticket(s) will be sent to you in shortly. Industry review of new Registered Fire Service Installation Contractor, Class 4 in Fire Service Department was completed.

ACRA/BSOMES/HKIE-BS Div/ASHRAE/CIBSE is jointly organizing a "Comprehensive Training Course for ACMV Systems". The course will be conducted in September - November tentatively. More detail information will be post on ACRA web site later on.

Paper "Executive Summary on Implementation Study for a District Cooling Scheme at South East Kowloon Development" was reviewed by ACRA. A paper summarizing ACRA's comments and recommendations had been forwarded to FEMC for feeding back to EMSD.
